Hawfields Educational Complex

Challenges

  • Provide separation between elementary and middle school students
  • Accommodate rapid enrollment growth through fast-track construction
  • Identify and pursue potential cost savings

Design Highlights

Hawfields Educational Complex combines a PK-5 elementary school and a 6-8 middle school in a single building. Unique entrance towers and signage, along with separate vehicular and bus entry drives, enhance wayfinding and give each school a distinct identity. To preserve valuable construction dollars, the elementary and middle school wings share the media center, dining area, kitchen, site facilities, and athletic fields. This approach helped the project arrive more than $2 million below the original budget. Overlapping construction phases supported a fast-track schedule.
