Challenges

  • Seamlessly integrate a new elementary school into a mature neighborhood
  • Provide a modern learning environment for students in grades K-5

Design Highlights

The building's exterior uses materials such as composite siding to blend with the surrounding residential neighborhood. The school's location on the site maximizes the distance between the two-story massing and the surrounding one-story houses. A playful "Main Street" theme featuring street lamps, picket fences, and sidewalks creates a neighborhood atmosphere for the school's 300 students. The floor plan places grades K-1 on the first floor, where students can easily access the media center, art lab, and music room.
