Challenges

  • Create an effective learning environment through the use of instructional technology
  • Enhance ties between the school and the surrounding community

Design Highlights

Washington Irving Elementary is a school built for the iPod® generation. Computer banks make every classroom a research center. Portable SmartBoards® turn hallways into instant learning environments. Light Speed® sound reinforcement systems make sure that every student is active and involved.

Faculty and community members also benefit from the use of technology. Each classroom includes a customized Super Desk that allows a teacher to control all technology systems from a single location. In the community-use wing, a dedicated Parent Room houses a bank of computers that visitors can use to conduct research or look for volunteer opportunities within the school.
