  • Provide flexibility for future changes in enrollment and approach to curriculum
  • Achieve LEED Silver Certification

Design Highlights

Less than a year after opening, V. Sue Cleveland High School earned a Citation from the 2010 National School Boards Association Exhibition of School Architecture. The jury praised the building for “The ‘True Campus’ look…while addressing security, energy usage, and the learning environment.” The school’s design stacks identical academic houses on three levels, allowing academies to expand horizontally or vertically as enrollment fluctuates. A secure outdoor plaza connects the campus and serves as the school commons.

The design explores the latest trends in technology and sustainability. All classrooms take advantage of a wireless network, interactive white boards, overhead projectors, and audio enhancement systems. Sustainable features include extensive natural lighting, ground-source heat pumps, and heat-reflecting roof materials.
