Challenges

  • Renovate a former military compound to serve as a campus for a PK-8 Montessori School
  • Complete all renovations in eight months and on a budget of less than $1 million
  • Honor the diversity of the school, which includes students and faculty from 35 countries

Design Highlights

The design integrates elements of the school's diverse culture throughout the campus. A row of 35 flags will greet visitors at the main entrance. The Primary/Pre-Kindergarten and Lower School buildings are inspired by the rain forests of South Africa and the plains and deserts of Africa, respectively. The free standing cottages that house the Upper School represent the "islands of the world." Themes are expressed through a cost-effective approach that uses flooring patterns and painted glass block walls to suggest flags and ethnic patterns.
