Grosse Pointe Academy Wins National Award (01/29/09)

The Grosse Pointe Academy, Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, has been selected by a panel of distinguished architectural experts to receive a 2009 Citation of Excellence Award from Learning By Design magazine, a publication of National School Boards Association. Only 14 of 124 entries were singled out for this recognition. The project will be featured in the April 2009 edition of the magazine, and will also be included in an exhibit at the 2009 annual conference of the National School Boards Association.

Designed by the Novi office of Fanning Howey, the renovation of Grosse Pointe Academy brings a modern learning environment to the school’s historic Moran Building without impacting its striking Gothic exterior. Classrooms are now 200 to 250 square feet larger and can support modern educational programs for grades 1-8. Phil Demartini, Head of School, noted, “The teachers just love their classrooms. From where it was to where it is right now, they are in teaching heaven. It’s a boon, an incredible boon. I see new life emerging from people.” The renovation project was completed in August 2007 at a cost of $7.7 million.
