Ohio Schools Undertake ENERGY STAR® Challenge (01/01/2010)
Two Ohio school districts are showing their commitment to sustainable and environmentally-conscious learning environments. Fanning Howey has partnered with Louisville City Schools and St. Marys City Schools to pursue ENERGY STAR status for multiple new school buildings.

St. Marys City Schools in St. Marys, Ohio, has been informed that projected energy usage for the district's $26.9 million Middle/High School meets ENERGY STAR guidelines. A geothermal system is the foundation of the school’s energy-efficient strategy. Currently under construction, the Middle/High School has received the designation of "Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR" and will be eligible for ENERGY STAR status after one year of operation.

Louisville PK-5 School and Louisville High School in Louisville, Ohio, have also received the "Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR" designation. The high school will feature an innovative chilled beam displacement system. Both schools will employ extensive natural daylighting strategies and lighting controls, and will be designed to achieve LEED® Silver certification.

ENERGY STAR designs are just one of the ways in which Fanning Howey helps clients create a more sustainable future. The firm offers complete energy services—including modeling, analysis, and auditing—as well as LEED certification-level design.
