Challenges

  • Address shifting cooling loads in a 514,090-square-foot high school with a variety of large volume spaces
  • Minimize overall energy costs
  • Employ cutting-edge technology that supports the educational delivery system

Design Highlights

To meet the heating and cooling needs of Chesterton High School’s various high-volume spaces, the design team incorporated a fan-powered VAV ventilation system. Because the VAV system constantly adjusts its operations to accommodate load shifts throughout the building, these systems are always firing at the most efficient energy level. Educational technology is incorporated throughout the building, including general computer labs, process writing labs, computer science labs, applied technology labs, and a CAD drafting lab.
