Challenges

  • Minimize energy costs for the new 179,529-square-foot K-12 school

Design Highlights

Spencerville K-12 School is truly built from the ground up. Beneath the school’s 30-acre site lies a network of 300 vertical geothermal wells that helps heat the building in winter and keep it cool in the summer. The wells combine with vertical water source heat pumps to meet the heating and cooling needs of each individual classroom. Thanks to the geothermal system, the client expects to reduce overall energy costs by 20-25% compared to traditional schools of a similar size.
