Preserve the integrity of the century-old McKune House, home of the Library since 1958

Create an expanded facility that enhances the "small town" main street and respects the community's heritage
Design Highlights
A creative renovation and expansion program transformed the existing McKune House into a spacious community room. Located behind this room, a new 24,000-square-foot library features a computer lab/meeting room, three different outdoor lounges, and a book collection twice the size of the previous facility. Kids, teenagers, and adults now all have their own unique spaces within the building. Thanks to this successful project and the innovative approach of library staff, Chelsea District Library was named the "2008 Best Small Library in America" by Library Journal.
