Challenges

  • Provide a distinctive identity for a new branch library serving the south end of Dearborn Heights
  • Provide access to resources for career development, research, multimedia, and homework assistance
  • Increase staffing efficiencies

Design Highlights

Graceful curves, large expanses of glass, and brick walls create a memorable yet understated landmark for the residents of Dearborn Heights. The interior combines large windows and wooden shelving to establish a welcoming, relaxing environment. Generous computer access spaces and wireless connectivity provide a high-tech learning environment for a diverse demographic. An efficient layout and limited shelving range allow a single person to supervise the entire library, reducing the need for additional staff.
