Challenges

  • Develop a plan that will turn an undersized and outdated library into a building that is relevant for decades to come

Highlights

Located in downtown Port Huron, near the St. Clair River, the Main Library had served its community well for nearly 50 years. However, as of 2009, the 30,000-square-foot building was undersized and lacking the modern amenities that today's patrons expect.

Fanning Howey and George Lawson are partnering to conduct a needs assessment, existing conditions study, and feasibility study of the Main Library. The study projects that the Main Library will need 75,000 square feet of library space. The investigation of renovation/expansion and new construction options is currently underway.
