Examine the condition of library facilities and the ability of library programs to serve current and future residents
Benchmark Richmond Public Library System against comparable systems across the country
Provide recommendations for a System-Wide Capital Improvement Program
Highlights
In an effort to align library service programs with a changing community, the Richmond Public Library System hired Fanning Howey and Rawlings Wilson to create a 20-year master plan. The plan analyzed existing conditions at all libraries, benchmarked library services against 12 similar communities, and involved extensive community engagement. The findings of the master plan suggested a dramatic redistribution of space, along with the formation of three demographic-specific library models that would serve the unique needs of each individual community.
