West End Library Feasibility Study
Image

Challenges

  • Help the client choose whether to renovate and expand the existing library or to pursue new construction on the same site
  • Align all planning efforts with the goals of the recently created 2009 System-Wide Master Plan

Highlights

West End Library is the first major project to come from the System's 2009 Master Plan. A comprehensive feasibility study is examining whether renovations or new construction will best support the integration of the Borrower's Library concept – a program laid out in the Master Plan that focuses on meeting the needs of high-circulation libraries. The study includes three options, each of which examines the cost, programmatic, and sustainable implications of the proposed solution. Sustainability is a key concern in each scenario, with the new construction options anticipating the use of displacement ventilation.
